Bake-Off!

So I decided to challenge my old FHE brother to a bake-off after he insulted my roomie's baked goods. So we set it up, and we each baked something. My offerings were cupcakes. I did two kinds, a double chocolate mint cake with dark chocolate mousse, and a strawberry butter cake with fluffy marshmallow icing. Yes, I know I am an overachiever, I do plate designs. Don't judge me.

The Double Chocolate Fudge Mint Cake

My Contender was Craig, who brought Pumpkin Chocolate Chip bread.

After our numerous judges tried all the goods...

The boys...Kyle, Travis, and Craig

After the judging, it was decided that the winner was....Both!
Because of the differences between the baked goods, it was decided that each was good for a different purpose. Lame. I think I showed much more skill. At least in appearance, I win hands down! We decided to have a round two, baking a set product at the same time. So stay tuned!

Anne's Wedding

Wedding Cake!

Wheat Free cutting cake. The decorations and initials are royal icing!

Okay, so Anne, my old roomie, got married this week, and I did the cakes. She has Celiac's, which makes her intolerant to wheat, so I had to make a special cake for her to cut that was wheat-free. That one is the one with the initials. The larger one was the actual wedding cake.

More pastry!

Okay, I was so proud of how this turned out! I was so happy with how it tasted too! The dessert is chocolate bread pudding (which, contrary to my previous belief, was amazingly good!), on top is a milk and white chocolate cone filled with coconut pineapple sorbet, and the sauces are raspberry, currant, and apricot. Sooo good!

Wedding Cake!

This was the very first cake I ever made for someone's wedding! It was pretty stressful, but it tured out pretty well!

Final for Advanced Cake Decorating

Okay, so I know this took forever, but here is my cake final! It looks better in real life. All the shells are white chocolate (I molded them myself) and the sea stars are brown sugar. Enjoy!

Mock-Up for Wedding

This cake was made to be a mock-up of a wedding cake for my friend's wedding. It also served as a mid-term project for my Advanced Cake Decorating class.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone had a fun year, and that you have many wonderful years ahead of you! I decided half-way through last semester that when I graduate this coming July, I am going to move to the east coast. Yes, it is far away from where my family lives, and I don't have a whole lot of connections on that coast, but I remember growing up in the Boston area (well, for as long as we were stationed there) as being one of the happiest times of my life, and, having recently visited the Boston area, realized that I still love the atmosphere of that area. So my mind is made up. I am going to try to find an apprenticeship at a cake bakery there, and move as soon as possible. That is part of the reason I have started this blog, to document the journey, and to build a portfolio of my cake decorating escapades. I hope I can do it all with a smile on my face, and keep a positive attitude through it all! Love Love me!
